More
about the conversion and refurbishment of the 18th century building. The Through Stone Coach House was recently converted using materials which are both sympathetic to the fabric of the building and sustainable in the long run. After being extended to the back with solid limestone walls the building was roofed with recycled slate. The exterior was plastered using a traditional lime render and then lime-washed. Inside, an insulation lime-hemp plaster was applied and sheep wool was used for insulating the roof. The entire arch of the former coach house gate was glazed and made into a huge window for the sittingroom. The windows and the built-in kitchen as well as all the curtains and blinds were made locally. Timber features throughout the house, all floors are from reclaimed wood and the doors were salvaged. In both bathrooms Tadelakt (Moroccan-style polished chalk) was applied on the walls. The warm water comes from an air-to-water geothermal unit with the air being drawn from the cellar of the main house. The heating system uses marble panel radiators. Outside, the yard was cobbled with stones which had been dug up inside the former stables. The conversion was carried out through direct labour and took over one year to complete. We hope that you will like the Through Stone Coach House and enjoy its unique atmosphere. |
